The
Jackson County Health Department provides a broad
range of health promotion and preventive health
services to the residents and visitors of Jackson
County. The cities of Jackson and Wellston contract
with the health district to form a Combined General
Health District. The cities of Jackson and Wellston
along with the twelve townships, the villages
of Coalton and Oak Hill and the president of the
County Commissioners all are involved in appointing
Board of Health members. The Board of Health establishes
public health policies and monitors and directs
the programs and services of the health department.
The health commissioner serves
at the pleasure of the Board of Health and is
charged to implement the programs and services
approved by the Board of Health. Most activities
that help improve the health status of our residents
take place in our clinics, our schools and your
homes. Both personal health protection and promotion
along with environmental protection are critical
areas of focus for the Jackson County Health Department.
The staff of the health department are dedicated
and hardworking individuals. We have done much
to protect your health and the environment. However,
a true partnership is needed with you and your
neighbors if we expect to truly improve our health
status in Jackson County. You are the most critical
part of a healthy individual, community and environment.
